Bird-Friendly Garden Tour
Each spring, CVAS partners with the California Native Plant Society (CNPS Channel Islands) to host a free tour of local yards that put drought-tolerant, bird-friendly native plants to work. Hosts are on-site at each garden to answer questions, and there's no charge to attend.
Bird populations are declining largely due to habitat loss, and native plants are a real part of the fix: they support the native insects birds depend on to feed their young. If a tour garden inspires you to start one of your own, look into our Lawns to Habitat grant program, which can help with design assistance and native plants for your own yard.
What to Expect
- A self-guided tour of real, lived-in native gardens, with hosts on-site to answer questions
- Gardens located in the cities hosting that year's tour, confirmed when you RSVP
- Free to attend, but RSVPs are required
- Plant photography is welcome and encouraged
- No restroom facilities, and pets aren't allowed in the gardens
